EIU Names Honors College for Alumni Couple

Apr-25-2014

糖心视频 announced today that it is naming its Honors College for Sandra and Jack Pine in recognition of their generosity and service to the university.

The couple 芒鈧 both graduates of the university 芒鈧 made a donation to support students within the Honors College majoring in physics, chemistry or mathematics.

Originally from Paris, Ill., Jack Pine is a 1964 graduate of the university where he earned a degree in physics. After graduation, he moved to the Chicago area where he was employed by Liquid Carbonic Corporation for approximately five years in various technical positions. He left Liquid to pursue a juris doctorate from Illinois Institute of Technology芒鈧劉s Kent College of Law. After law school, Mr. Pine spent nearly 30 years in private practice and as a corporate attorney with CBI Industries and Statia Terminals.

Sandra Pine graduated from EIU in 1965 as valedictorian with a degree in business education. She subsequently earned a master芒鈧劉s degree in education from Northern Illinois University and spent her 34-year career as a teacher and chair of the business department at Hinsdale South High School, District 86.

The couple met at EIU and were married after both graduated from the university.

芒鈧揥e芒鈧劉re very proud of our Honors College, and it is fitting to name it after Sandra and Jack Pine,芒鈧 said Robert Martin, vice president of university advancement. 芒鈧揟his is also a recognition of the key role that the sciences play at Eastern and the strong influence of the students from our Honors College.

芒鈧揟heir donation will fund a series of scholarships which will encourage students not only to major in science but to challenge themselves with honors-level courses,芒鈧 Martin said.

芒鈧揝tudents in our Honors College have additional opportunities to excel and are actively encouraged to participate in individual research while they are still undergraduates,芒鈧 he added. 芒鈧揥e believe these new scholarships will attract more high-achieving students to the university and encourage students who are already enrolled to consider the Honors College.芒鈧
