Bicycle and Scooter Safety Policies--A Reminder

We want to take a moment to remind the campus community about the University's policies regarding scooters, hoverboards, skateboards, and bicycles. These devices are a convenient way to get around campus, but they must be used responsibly to ensure the safety of our community.

Riding Areas: For everyone's safety these devices cannot be used or ridden inside any university building. These devices are not only a safety concern but also can cause damage to the floors.  Outside use of these devices should be in areas where there is not heavy pedestrian traffic. Users must always yield to pedestrian traffic.

Speed and Safety: Riders are expected to travel at safe speeds and follow all traffic laws. Electric scooters and bicycles should be operated at reduced speeds in high-traffic areas.

Storage: Storage of electric scooters in university housing facilities is prohibited.

For more information please refer to EIU's Internal Governing Policy /auditing/igp/160 and the EIU Student Conduct Code Standard 4 Section E: /deanofstudents/docs/25-26code_conduct.pdf

Thank you,

Jody Stone
Dean of Students
