Subject: Phishing Attacks
Opportunistic attackers are attempting to use phishing techniques to access EIU resources, email accounts, and workstations. Phishing is the use of an email or communication - often appearing to come from a person or company you know, sometimes even with credible and familiar-looking logos or headers - to trick you into providing sensitive personal information.

芒鈧 Do not click links within the email. When possible, type the URL芒鈧痠nto芒鈧痽our web browser.芒鈧⑩偓炉
芒鈧 Remember:芒鈧疎IU will never ask for your password in an email芒鈧痮r on a Google Form.芒鈧⑩偓炉
芒鈧 Never send芒鈧痑芒鈧痯assword in芒鈧痑n芒鈧痚mail.芒鈧
芒鈧 Do not download and open attachments you are not expecting.芒鈧
芒鈧 A芒鈧痜requent format used by phishers is a芒鈧痜ellow student requesting information or telling you about an opportunity.芒鈧
芒鈧 When in芒鈧痙oubt, call the person芒鈧痜rom芒鈧痺hom芒鈧痶he email came.芒鈧
芒鈧 If it is an official EIU message, there will be a verification link. Verify by芒鈧痝oing to this芒鈧痺ebsite: /verify
How to芒鈧痵pot a phishing message:芒鈧
芒鈧 The message芒鈧劉s email address does not match the company芒鈧痶hat supposedly芒鈧痵ent it.芒鈧
芒鈧 The message has a generic greeting.芒鈧
芒鈧 Poor芒鈧痝rammar and spelling.芒鈧
芒鈧 When hovering over a芒鈧痩ink芒鈧痺ithin the email, it doesn芒鈧劉t match the company芒鈧痶hat芒鈧痵ent it.芒鈧
芒鈧 The message has a sense of urgency.芒鈧
芒鈧 The message makes promises of financial芒鈧痝ain.
芒鈧 Your supervisor will communicate from their official EIU email address. Communications from your 'supervisor' asking for your cell phone to complete a task are almost always phishing attempts.
If you feel you have fallen for a phishing attack,芒鈧痠mmediately芒鈧痗hange your password: go芒鈧痶o芒鈧痟ttps://password.eiu.edu, log in, and芒鈧痗hoose the reset password option.
Recognized a phishing芒鈧痑ttempt?芒鈧疨lease forward the message to phishing@eiu.edu and then delete the message. Another option while using芒鈧疧utlook Web or desktop芒鈧痠s to芒鈧痗lick芒鈧⑩偓艙Junk芒鈧澝⑩偓炉and芒鈧痗hoose芒鈧痶he芒鈧⑩偓艙phishing芒鈧澝⑩偓炉option.
